The Cakemaker

Der Kuchenmacher

58th TIFF: Greek Premiere

Thomas, a talented German baker, is having an affair with Oren, an Israeli married man who often travels to Berlin with his work. When Oren dies in a car crash, Thomas travels to Jerusalem seeking information on his lover’s past. He will then reach Oren’s wife, hiding his own identity and offering to work for her café. His pastry brings throngs of people in the cafe, but Thomas makes two mistakes: he doesn’t use kosher ingredients and he fails to predict the outcome of his relationship with the young widow. In this secret recipe for the products of loss and yearning, people crave for the same sweet taste of life, beyond the borders of their culture and origin.
