The World to Come

The World to Come

61st TIFF: Greek premiere

1850, rural upstate New York. Abigail and her farmer husband are emotionally apart, stricken by grief for their little daughter’s recent death. When Abigail and her new neighbor Tallie–who’s chained to a repressive marriage–exchange glances, the first spark of a slow-simmering romance is not long before bursting into flames. A diary of liberating love, riddled with low-key culminations, that captures the era’s ambiance, while paying a subtle homage to 19th-century American literature.
