Manifesto

Manifesto

In 1920, in Central Europe, the tyrannical king of a fictional empire is scheduled to visit a small town that is considered to be completely safe. However, a group of revolutionaries plot to kill the oppressive monarch. Loosely based on Émile Zola’s novella For a Night of Love, this pastoral comedy of manners is a cheeky mix of sex and political satire, deconstructing the imaginary of power and revolution. A truly sui generis blend, even for Makavejev’s outrageous standards, that consists of a farcing espionage movie and a ramshackle melodrama.
