Through Rocks and Clouds

TIFF65: Greek Premiere
Feliciano, an eight-year-old boy from Peru who raises alpacas and shows a special affection for one he calls Ronaldo, is thrilled at the prospect of his country qualifying for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. However, everything that defines his life so far is at risk of dramatic change due to a mining company that pollutes and covets their land, directly threatening, among other things, the viability of the local livestock community. Filmed in the majestic highlands of Peru, Through Rocks and Clouds starts from an unusual friendship between a rebellious youngster and an adorable alpaca, only to drastically transform along the way into a film of timely environmental concern. With a title perfectly attuned to the wild power of the natural landscape, Franco García Becerra's film lives and breathes between the rocky ground and the cloud-filled sky, ensuring that it touches, at the right moment and with the appropriate sensitivity, the most emotional chords of the child we are, or that we keep well-guarded within us.
