Taking Roots: 14 Movies, 14 Inceptions, 14 Roots of the Soul

This year, the 58th Thessaloniki International Film Festival proposes a fresh approach to cinema, selecting 14 films for the International Competition Section, guided by principles inspired by one of the most iconic 20th-century books: The Need for Roots by French philosopher Simone Weil (1909–1943), one of the most unique and distinctive voices in 20th-century thought. These 14 films also inspire the art exhibition Taking Roots: The Festival commissioned 14 young Greek artists to produce an artwork each, inspired by a film in the competition section.

The exhibition is organized with the support of the 6th Thessaloniki Biennale of Contemporary Art.
