TIFF66 kicks off with Golden Lion winner "Father Mother Sister Brother" by Jim Jarmusch

The new film of the acclaimed and beloved American film director Jim Jarmusch, Father Mother Sister Brother, Golden Lion winner at the recent Venice International Film Festival, will signal the curtain rise for the 66th Thessaloniki International Film Festival on October 30th, at the Olympion movie theater

Indya Moore, leading star in the film’s third chapter, will honor the opening ceremony with her presence. Featured in TIME magazine’s list with the 100 most influential people of the world in 2019, Indya Moore had a stunning modeling career under her belt before also displaying her talent in cinema and TV, where she stirred the waters for the first time with the series Pose (2018-2021). The film’s producer Atilla Salih Yücer will also attend the 66th TIFF, accompanied by two of the film’s most pivotal crew members, renowned DoP Frederick Elms, steady collaborator of Jim Jarmusch and previously of David Lynch, and top-notch costume designer Catherine George, who will deliver two fascinating masterclasses within the framework of the 66th TIFF.

“The opening film of this year’s Festival is pervaded with all the time-honored and priceless virtues that have defined the work of Jim Jarmusch throughout the years: the beauty of the mundane, the imperfect nature of communication, the details that hide within them all the essence, the offbeat and redemptive humour, the greatness of simplicity. Jarmusch crafts a tender mosaic of everyday vignettes, illustrated on the intricate canvas of human relationships,” points out the Festival’s Artistic Director Orestis Andreadakis.

Father Mother Sister Brother is carefully constructed in the form of a triptych, composed of three stories that all concern the relationships between adult children, their somewhat distant parent (or parents), and each other. Each of the three chapters takes place in the present, and each in a different country. FATHER is set in the Northeast US, MOTHER in Dublin, Ireland, and SISTER BROTHER in Paris, France. The film is a series of character studies, quiet, observational and non-judgmental – a comedy, but interwoven with threads of melancholy. Starring: Cate Blanchett, Charlotte Rampling, Adam Driver, Vicky Krieps, Indya Moore and Tom Waits
