Writing on the City

Walls are critical sites. They rise within cities and carry faces, names, slogans, poems, and anthems. We read the walls to discover the dreams of the city’s inhabitants – the strong and the weak. Dissatisfied people come out of their hiding places in the darkness to write something on a wall. Walls remind us of constitutional and Islamic revolutions, reflecting the passion of freedom, or the suppressed anger of prisons. A documentary on the evolution of graffiti in Tehran that proves that no wall in the urban landscape is blank, even if totally white: there are traces of markers and sprays, but also the scars of contemporary history
