Honorary event: A. DAMIANOS

HONORARY EVENT FOR ALEXIS DAMIANOS

On Wednesday, November 24th, at Warehouse D of the Thessaloniki Port, the 45th Thessaloniki Film Festival staged an honorary event for one of the most prominent figures of Greek cinema, Alexis Damianos. With only three films spanning a 30-year career, Damianos has marked the course of Greek cinema. Attending yesterday’s honorary event were his wife, Artemis Kapasakali, Yorgos Koutouzis, the starring actor of the film Evdokia, and actress Eleni Roda, Evdokia’s voice in the film, all of whom received a standing ovation from the crowd that had filled the room.

The Director of the Festival, Michel Demopoulos, expressed his joy for the screening of Evdokia in the framework of the tribute prepared by the Festival, and his sadness for the fact that the director wasn’t able to attend because of fatigue. Mr. Demopoulos characterized the event as a warm and modest evening. Lakis Papastathis, Damianos’ right hand in the film Evdokia, said that for the past 35 years he has been trying to understand why the last scene, where the two actors ride away on a tricycle, was shot in black and white as opposed to the rest of the film, which was in colour. “I know the reason wasn’t technical but rather for narrative purposes. At the end of the film, the actors ride on this tricycle into reality, into the real life”, said Mr. Papastathis.
