Honored guest of the 58th Thessaloniki International Film Festival, the French-American actor Jean-Marc Barr, whom we met and loved through the legendary film The Big Blue by Luc Besson, gave a press conference on Saturday, November 5, 2017, at the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography. The actor came to Thessaloniki on the occasion of two film screenings of the 58th TIFF, where he participates respectively as narrator and protagonist: the documentary Dolphin Man by Lefteris Haritos, a film that unfolds the life of the diver Jacques Mayol, whom Barr played in The Big Blue, and the film Grain by Semih Kaplanoğlu.

Exhibition opening: “Loafing and Camouflage: From the archives of Nikos Perakis”

Thirty three years after the celebrated Greek filmmaker Nikos Perakis shot it, the legendary film “Loafing and Camouflage” provided the material for an original visual arts exhibition titled “Loafing and Camouflage: From the archive of Nikos Perakis”. The exhibition opening took place on Friday, November 3, 2017 at the Bookstore of the National Bank Educational Institution (11, Tsimiski str.), as part of the parallel events of the 58th Thessaloniki International Film Festival.

A powerful message for a festival open to all, and at the same time innovation-oriented, was the one sent during the opening ceremony of the 58th Thessaloniki International Film Festival, on Thursday 2 November 2017, in a fully packed Olympion.
This year’s ceremony was marked by an important innovation: it was presented by the actor Maria Christoforidou in sign language. At the same time, as in last year’s event, sign language interpretation was provided for the speakers throughout the ceremony.

“INVISIBLE HANDS” TRIBUTE
The diverse aspects of unemployment and work, as well as their impact on society and individuals are tactfully explored in the tribute “Invisible Hands” presented in the 58th Thessaloniki International Film Festival.
The free-admission tribute showcases 5 films of recent production that will have their Greek premiere in Thessaloniki. The films highlight the various angles of unemployment; from uncertainty and despair to resourcefulness and hope. They also provide an intriguing look on issues such as the economic crisis, modern working conditions, as well as self-management and teamwork.
All venues of the screenings of the tribute “Invisible Hands” are accessible.
The tribute “Invisible Hands” is implemented through the Operational Program "Human Resources Development, Education and Lifelong Learning" and is co-financed by the European Union (European Social Fund) and Greek national funds. Its co-funded projects deal mostly with the improvement of education and employment in Greece. Its main targets relate to the development and promotion of human resources skills, activities against unemployment, strengthen social cohesion and social inclusion of vulnerable social groups, improvement of the quality of education & lifelong learning, awareness on environmental education, linking education with the labor market.
The tribute is implemented as part of the anniversary events for the 60 years of the European Social Fund.
This is the second tribute of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival funded by the Operational Program "Human Resources Development, Education and Lifelong Learning".
