11th TDF: GREEKDOCS ONLINE PRESENTATION

GREEKDOCS ONLINE PRESENTATION

The first official presentation of the Greek section of the digital platform onlinefilm.org, for the distribution and screening of documentaries online took place on Saturday, March 21, as part of the 11th Thessaloniki Documentary Festival - Images of the 21st Century.

The representatives of the digital platform, http:// greece.onlinefilm.org, Yuri Averof, Rea Apostolidou, Yorgos Kravvaritis and Cay Wesnig, founder of the website onlinefilms.org, , presented the Greek website and explained their philosophy and goals to the audience.

“We know that most films and documentaries can be found for free on illegal, pirate websites. Anyone can download the film he wishes to see. We thought of using the pirates’ own electronic systems legally, and for the benefit of film makers”, Cay Wesnig noted and added: “At onlinefilms.org the user can buy a film at a very low price and download it easily and quickly and see it immediately. We are speaking about electronic distribution and immediate screening”.

Producer Rea Apostolidou noted that the goal of the Greek digital platform is to promote Greek films to private persons and institutions, schools and immigrant Greek communities abroad: “As of today we have 100 Greek films in our database, and we aim to increase this number to 400 this year. There is a market abroad that we have not touched. We signed an agreement with ERT and The Hellenic Cultural Institute for the promotion of films through the digital platform”.

Researcher Yorgos Kravvaritis made an analytical presentation of greece.onlinefilms.org: “We have classified the films alphabetically, while the two minute preview of the film is free. The user can download the film using paypal”.
