SCREENING OF “THE MUZZLED HORSE OF AN ENGINEER IN SEARCH OF MECHANICAL SADDLES” ACCOMPANIED BY A LIVE PERFORMANCE OF “THE BROCKAS”

Filipino filmmaker Khavn De La Cruz’ film “The muzzled horse of an engineer in search of mechanical saddles” was screened in a highly festive atmosphere at the packed John Cassavetes Theater on Monday, November 16. The film was accompanied by live music performed by “The Brockas”, in the framework of the tribute to New Filipino Cinema by the Independence Days section of TIFF.

“The Brockas” is a band of extraordinary composition and productivity. Through its music, the band expresses the rising power of Filipino cinema. Members are, among others, directors Khavn De La Cruz’ – who leads the band – Lav Diaz and John Torres. They are accompanied by professional musicians, who used percussion and traditional string instruments on stage to render special and meaningful music pieces.

Khavn De La Cruz welcomed the audience saying: “We like the spark of Thessaloniki. We are happy we have a chance to play music in such a packed theater and we hope you will stay with us till the end of the movie”. Then the lights grew dimmer, the movie started and “The Brockas” gave the audience a unique music experience. Khavn De La Cruz opened the performance himself, using a Greek expression: “Tha sas petaxoume ta miala sta kagela” (“we will blow your heads off”), wining the enthusiastic applause of the audience.
