How will the 23^rd Thessaloniki Documentary Festival take place

Dynamic and innovative, the 23^rd Thessaloniki Documentary Festival returns, fully adapted to the conditions created by the pandemic, with the need to explore new ways of expression.

This year’s edition will take place as a hybrid event: It will start on March (4-14/3) and will culminate in a documentary celebration that will take place from June 24 until July 4, 2021, in the Festival’s physical spaces, if the conditions allow, and online.

How will the 23^rd TDF take place

• The events of the 23^rd TDF will start on March and continue into summer. From March 4 – 14, 2021 the films of this year’s tribute will be screened online and will take us on a journey to all the things we missed during the pandemic. More details will be announced soon. From March 4 - 14, we will, also screen online documentaries for children and teenagers.   
• If the situation allows, then together with the online screenings, physical screenings will also take place at Olympion theater.
• From March until summer, the Festival will present actions and screenings, online or in the Festival venues, according to the health situation. Our goal is to inspire and connect viewers to documentary filmmaking, in any way possible.
• The main actions of the 23^rd TDF will take place from June 24 to July 4, 2021, in summer cinemas and the Festival’s theaters, if the situation allows. The films from the Festival’s three competition sections, as well as the Greek documentaries will be screened during that time. Meanwhile, films from the program will be available online to viewers from Greece.
• The Agora of the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival will take place from June 25 to July 3 and some of its actions are planned to take place in open spaces.
• During the same period, part of the program will be screened in other cities in Greece, in summer cinemas and/or open spaces.
