Screening of the documentary A Life like a Movie – Dinos Katsourides

On Sunday, November 7th, at Pavlos Zannas Theatre, the screening of the documentary A Life like a Cinema – Dinos Katsourides, directed by Isavella Mavraki took place, as part of a mini-tribute by the 62nd TIFF to Dinos Katsourides, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of his death. The screening of the film was attended by Isavella Mavraki, the director and lifelong companion of Dinos Katsourides, as well as Kyriakos Hatzimichailidis, the producer of the documentary, who prefaced the film.

Mr Hatzimichailidis initially took the floor, thanking the Thessaloniki Festival people as well as the audience and making a small flashback to his own acquaintance and contact with Dinos Katsourides. “Please allow me share here with you a personal confession, coming from the heart, for the beloved Dinos Katsourides. I come from the short film genre, an extremely difficult genre, where the contribution and assistance of all people involved is necessary. It was there that I met Dinos Katsourides, a man of a strong personality, gravity and altruism. Dinos was always willing to stand by young creators and contribute to the entire spectrum of Greek cinema. As you may already know, he had had passed from almost every single post in the film process, which he knew like the back of his hand. He was full of love and generosity, always ready to offer his support, whether it was his equipment or take on the direction of photography for free. Dinos Katsourides had the ardent vow to see Greek cinema move forward, evolve both artistically and in the professional-economic field. This film is an attempt to pay homage to a truly great personality," he said.

Then, Isavella Mavraki, director of the documentary and companion of Dinos Katsouridis took the baton. "The film you will be watching was shot in a period of emotional turmoil, shortly after Dinos had passed away. I still believe it was the right timing to do the shootings. Although Dinos Katsourides lighted countless films of Greek cinema in an enchanting way, he preferred to stay away from the spotlight. Nevertheless, he is known even nowadays among the younger generations through his films. I am sure that the film you are about to watch, where many friends and collaborators of Dinos appear, will fill all gaps you might have and – why not? – will even entertain you. I don't have anything else to add, what I had to say about Dinos Katsourides I communicated it through this documentary", Isavella Mavraki concluded, receiving the warm applause of the audience.
