The publication was compiled on the occasion of the big tribute with the title “Cinemythology: Greek myths in world cinema”, which was organized by Thessaloniki International Film Festival, as part of the Cultural Olympiad 2001-2004. The tribute was held between October 2003 and March 2004 in Athens, Thessaloniki, Piraeus, Patra, Volos, Heraklion, and in three European cities (Berlin, Madrid and London) presenting 45 films, 15 filmed theatrical plays, 11 dance films, a dancing performance and a photography exhibition. The book includes theoretical texts and researches on the adaptation of ancient Greek myths in cinema, analytical filmography with credits, synopses and reviews of the films which were screened, rich photo archive, reviews and theoretical texts on the filmed theatrical performances of ancient Greek drama and theoretical texts on the relationship among myth, dancing and cinema.
The publication is also released with selected texts translated in English and German.
