Saraband

Saraband

Examining enduring love and the struggle for power and reconciliation at the heart of all families, in Saraband, Bergman reunites two characters last seen divorcing in his 1973 film Scenes from a Marriage. A retired academic living off a small inheritance, Johan finds his country idyll torn apart by the reappearance of Marianne, his ex-wife, thirty-two years after their last meeting. Bergman's ability to push situations beyond civility into explosions of love or hate is unsurpassed. Powerful and vigorous, and featuring peerless performances, this is yet another masterpiece by the great auteur.
