Talking with Fish and Birds

In the Amazon rain forest live the last remaining Zaparo Indians - once one of the largest populations of this region, today they are in danger of extermination. This film tells the story of the family of the last shaman of the Ecuadorian Zaparos - Manari (Cayman) Ushigua, who died in 1997. His wisdom is largely responsible for the Zaparos’ being able to preserve their culture: he protected them from encroachments by Catholic missionaries and Protestant sects. Today, they continue to live existentially bound to the world of the jungle spirits, in harmony with nature.
