For aspiring dancers, the world of ballet is expensive, exclusive, strenuous – and short-lived. Feature documentary First Position captures a year in the lives of six young dancers from different countries, as they train for one of the most prestigious ballet competitions in the world: the Youth America Grand Prix. In spite of injury, failure, prejudice, and poverty, these young dancers manage to remain inspired and – when the curtain finally rises – to inspire everyone else.
