49 TIFF: GREECE: GENERATION NEXT

PRESS RELEASE

GREEK PROGRAM TRIBUTES

GENERATION NEXT

The 49th Thessaloniki International Film Festival presents Greece: Generation Next, a program that aims to introduce the new generation of Greek filmmakers. Seven Greek directors that are now in various production stages of their first features will have the chance to present their work to the Festival audiences and industry delegates. “We want the Festival’s Greek section to act as a useful tool, for the filmmakers, the audience and for the industry itself”, stresses Festival Director Despina Mouzaki. For this purpose, the Greece: Generation Next program, curated by Konstantinos Kontovrakis, has been integrated in several of the TIFF activities.

The seven directors’ short films and documentaries will be screened during the Festival. Moreover, those who have shot material for their first features will be integrated in the Agora Works in Progress, while Crossroads, the TIFF Co-production Forum, which focuses on the production of one country per year, selects the Greece: Generation Next participants for this year’s organization. In this manner, the emphasis is not only placed on the filmmakers’ presence so far, but chiefly on providing them with support for the feature films being prepared now, through the networking with producers, distributors and festival delegates from all over the world. Greece: Generation Next will be accompanied by a TIFF publication in Greek and English.

The seven directors and their first features are:

Bujar Alimani - Beyond Amnesty
Aris Bafaloukas Apnea
Panayiotis Fafoutis - Wild West
Margarita Manda - Gold Dust
Vardis Marinakis - Black Field
Christos Nikoleris - Nobody
Syllas Tzoumerkas - Homeland
