TIFF New President

Today, the new President of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, Georges Corraface, was welcomed by the Festival Director, Despina Mouzaki.

“I would like to welcome Georges Corraface to his new duties as President of the Thessaloniki International Film Festival. He is a man with an international profile, a man who is knowledgeable of both the Greek and international cinema scene, having often participated in both. He is an artist with an extensive education, sensitivity and a universal perspective on things. We are absolutely confident that the new President will also prove to be a worthy ambassador for Greek cinema internationally and host to the world in Thessaloniki and its Festival. We wish him the best success in his work.”

Immediately following his meeting with Despina Mouzaki, Georges Corraface made the following statement:

“It is a great honour for me as well as a great challenge to take over the position of president of a celebration of cinema as large as the Thessaloniki International Film Festival.

A Festival is the most vibrant gathering of creators, of cinema professionals and the public. During a Festival, Cinema takes center stage while most of the time it is on the sidelines. In short, a Festival is the “Theater” of Cinema.

The Thessaloniki Festival has a great deal of personal meaning for me. I have lived many wonderful moments as both a guest and as a member of the jury. We intend to continue with the important work that has been done thus far. It is a challenge to showcase the new wave of Greek cinema and to attune it with the corresponding new waves of the international cinematic scene.

My first contact with my Festival collaborators has been very positive: They work intensively, with purpose and vision. All the details will be announced in a press conference that will be given at the end of September.”
