The goat dance

Ο χορός των τράγων

Carnival is a wild time all over Greece, but nowhere is it more unbridled and authentic as it is on the island of Skyros. All its features --the figures which are half-human half-animal, the bizarre masks, the pantomimes, the parodies and the bawdy language-- identify the Carnival on Skyros with the ancient Dionysia. The documentary presents the dance of the goats or "elders", as well as a feast organized at the same time by the island's fishermen.
