As the owner of a restaurant, single thirty-something Lai Shuangyang works late at the bustling night market on Jiqing Street. Her working day begins mid-afternoon when she wakes up to do the accounts and prepare food for the evening. Among her customers is middle-aged businessman Zhuo Xiongzhou, a regular for over a year who is as interested in her as the delicacies she serves.When older brother Shuangyuan dumps their son, Duo’er, on her she pays a visit to their younger brother, Jiujiu, who is locked up for drug abuse.With the mess of her life becoming ever more apparent, she sets out to put everything in order, not least securing the family’s ancestral home that has been stolen from them...

Huo Jianqi

Huo Jianqi was born in Beijing in 1958. He entered the Beijing Film Academy in 1978 where he specialized in production design. After graduating in 1982, he spent more than ten years as a set designer at the Xi’an and Beijing Film Studios for directors such as Tian Zhuangzhuang and Xia Gang. He made his directorial debut in 1995 with The Winner.
