Opening of the "Takis Kanellopoulos: Dreaming of excursion" art installation

The opening of the original exhibition-art installation “Takis Kanellopoulos: Dreaming of an Excursion” took place on Monday, November 6th, as part of the 64th Thessaloniki Film Festival's tribute to the great Greek director. Present at the opening of the exhibition were, among others, the family members of Takis Kanellopoulos, the general director of the Festival, Elise Jalladeau, the artistic director of the Festival, Orestis Andreadakis, as well as the director Nikos Perakis, to whom the Festival is hosting a tribute.

The artistic director of the Festival, Mr. Andreadakis, spoke about the exhibition and this year's tribute, stating: "Takis Kanellopoulos is the only director of Greek cinema who spent his whole life and shot all his films in Thessaloniki and the surrounding area. This is not the first time that the Festival is paying tribute to his work; it has done so in the past, as well. I believe that a tribute to Takis Kanellopoulos should be held every now and then, so that we can all remember and appreciate him, place him in the context of the era, and realize each time how relevant he continues to be, how important his romantic poetic writing was and still is, and how proud we must be to be living in the same area this exceptional man once walked on."

Film critic of flix.gr, Manolis Kranakis, in collaboration with the director Nikos Pastra, undertook the curation of the exhibition-art installation, which welcomes and invites the audience on a journey through the filmography of the great filmmaker who lived and made films solely in Thessaloniki. "This art installation accompanies the tribute. The idea was to have an exhibition that would essentially be introducing Takis Kanellopoulos to the audience from the very beginning. Takis Kanellopoulos was an underrated and marginalized filmmaker. Besides his early films, the rest of his works remained relatively unknown. Effectively, he is the only director from Thessaloniki who was born, lived, created all his films and died in Thessaloniki. He didn't move to Athens for work, which cost him in terms of fame and business. Therefore, the exhibition also plays an educational role", Mr. Kranakis remarked, expressing his gratitude to the family of Takis Kanellopoulos for their assistance in realizing the tribute.

Takis Kanellopoulos's romantic vision unfolds through an audiovisual capsule. Images from all of his films, maps showing the geographical focal points of his career, as well as videos and audio narratives by prominent figures of the artistic world, accompany the tribute, in an attempt to reintroduce the iconic creator to the public.
