On our YouTube channel we share short films by the directors of the program “Meet the Future”.

We present, for free, short films by Greek directors that participated in the program “Meet the Future” of the 60th TIFF, that took place on November 2019. The initiative was a collaboration between TIFF and the Onassis Foundation.

The directors’ short films have been selected in the past five years to participate in the programs of the 13 most notable Film Festivals worldwide (Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Locarno, Karlovy Vary, San Sebastián, London, Rotterdam, New York, Tribeca, Toronto, Sundance, Busan) or they have been nominated for the Academy Awards. The directors have not yet completed their first feature film.

During the next days, on our YouTube channel we will all watch for free the short films by the directors. We want to thank all of them for answering the call to bring their work to the public, during the difficult days of the quarantine. A selection from each director’s filmography will be available on youtube.com/user/filmfestivalgr for three days.

The directors who participated in the Meet the Future program are:

There, one can discover amazing film stories, moments and people, as well as the rare collection HELLAFI, which was declared a monument by the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage. HELLAFI includes large scale movie posters, pencil sketches, watercolor artwork, lithographs, Indian ink etc.

Here is a small taste from myfestival.gr:

“Dear Elia,

Thanks for making it possible to see Voulgaris’ film “Quiet days of August”. It’s an elegant, beautifully made film. The camera moves constantly -sensually. You find yourself getting involved with the characters … the longing, the melancholy… even a sense of fear and dread… ultimately, a very surprising and moving ending…

Martin Scorsese”

Discover subversive filmmakers and the best films from all over the world in the three competition sections of TIFF: International Competition (a program with films from across the Globe), Meet the Neighbors Competition (with first or second features from Greece's extended "neighborhood") and >>Film Forward Competition section (with films that go beyond the conventions of film genres). Moreover, in the International Program we find the sections: Open Horizons and the Open Horizons - Another Take subsection, Balkan Survey, Special Screenings, Out of Competition and ’Round Midnight. TIFF, also, presents the podcast section, which includes in competition and out of competition podcasts.

TIFF, also, presents the best films from the annual Greek production, tributes and cinematic surprises and gives the opportunity to film professionals to connect at the dynamic TIFF's Agora, the Industry section of the Festival.

The Agora Docs in Progress segment is the newest addition to the Thessaloniki Doc Market. It gives the opportunity to directors and producers from Central Europe and the Balkan and Mediterranean regions to present their documentary films to buyers, co-producers, festival representatives and sales agents at the stage just before completion.
